Super interesting read! I have a question: The trigger in generative AI is also chaotic, no? While clicking a button is a singular, easily defined and recognizable action (it cannot mean anything other than a click), a freeform input can have many interpretations, which leads to multiple responses, some being unhelpful, really out there. It’s one area I think where intentionally adding some friction aka constraints in the trigger itself might get make the whole experience more accessible to the novice user.

Thank you. :)

Absolutely! The input itself can be as varied as the response - and since it's from the users own mind, it's intent is embedded. Which is what can cause confusion / chaos in the response. Expectations and reality might not be in sync during this exchange.

Shaping intent is definitely a practiced art. Providing helpful friction or constraints in the UI and user flows would definitely be helpful for the novice user! Training your models in such a way that helps the user along the PR curve is also something to consider when implementing.
